A student of the Bates college, Rachel Lang (Emily Bergl), live in an adoptive family since her mother was locked up for schizophrénie. She is secrete and feels different everywhere: in this family and in the college where she undergoes the mockeries of the students. What makes her feeling different from others, it is that she have the faculty of télékinésy of which she is unaware of the origin, which frightens her. However, she has a friend : LISA (Mena Suvari). Unfortunately, this one, very fragile, commit suicide after being victim of the game in which take part all the footballers of the college : make love with most of the girls to obtain points.

Rachel, who does not have any more just her dog to comfort her, plunges in the deprime. The psychologist of the school, Sue Snell (Amy Irving), then tried to help her but she refused. It is during this period that her dog is done crushed not far from her. The motorist carried on his road but another stopped to lead her with her dog in a private clinic veterinaire. This motorist, it is Jessie (Jason London), a footballer of her college. This one love Rachel and proposed to her to have a rendez-vous after the courses, what she accepts.

However, this did not delight the other members of the foot team, and Tracy (Charlotte Ayanna) who want Jessie. Moreover Rachel have photos of Lisa with the footballer which caused her suicide. As she refused to give these photos which could be compromising for the future of the footballer Eric (Zachery Ty Bryan), all the team decide to make frightened Rachel. That does not go and Jessie takes her defense against the others.

Rachel is more and more stressed by all these things. Sue remark it and wants to help her. During one of their meeting, Rachel exploded an object being on the desk. Sue, who has knew that twenty years ago with Carrie White who had the same capacities and who killed a great number of her comrades at the time of the fest of the end of the year where they ridiculed her. She decide to go to see Rachel's mother to learn more. She discovered that Rachel and Carrrie White have the same father. She tried to explain to Rachel in order to don't have such a drama, but without effect, Rachel does not want to believe her.

During this time, the students seeks another means of being avenged for Rachel. They thus decided to invite her to the fest which gived the best friend of Jessie. He also lended him his country house so that he can spend good time with Rachel. She accepted and made love for the first time this night, with Jessie. Sue decide to free Rachel's mother so that she will be able to says her who is her father. During this time, the fest is begining. Rachel go there accompanied by other members of the group, Jessie having to join her later. This one, whose car has been dammage was led by Tracy who stop at her home to change her clothes before the fest.

While Sue seeks where Rachel is, this one waits for Jessie. All the members of the football team deals with her, they make her dance and propose to her to watch a film with everyone. This film is in fact her night with Jessie. The footballers explains to her whereas he made that only to obtain points for their game. Finally, everyone maked fun of her.

She enters a terrible rage then : the gates and the shutters closed, the windows exploded and a carnage began.

Sue and Rachel's mother arrives finally, but it is too late. The house is in flame. All the invited and Sue were killed. Then arrive Jessie and Tracy who saw the carnage. By seeing them arriving, Rachel kills Tracy by making her fall a beam ignited above. She wants to make the same with Jessie who however tried to explain to her that he love her. Before to killing him, she saw the end of the film when he say that he love her while she was sleeping.

Tthen she realize he said the truth, forgave him and saved him from the beam which fell. Unfortunately, she was crushed below. Jessy tried to save her but it's impossible. He decided to perish with her, but before dying, she threw him out of the house thanks to her capacity of telekinesy.

Finalement, a year later, Jessie always thinks about her.
